The only peninsula-shaped park in Korea, where mountains and the sea come together,
is divided into Naebyeonsan, a mountainous area, and Oebyeonsan, centered on the coast.
Naebyeonsan boasts breathtaking scenery, with numerous large and small mountains centered around Uisangbong Peak and over 10 Jikso Waterfalls,
while the coastal Oebyeonsan exudes the fragrance of the sea with its Chaeseokgang and Jeokbyeokgang cliffs.
Byeonsanbando National Park is particularly famous for its beautiful sunsets.

Chaeseokgang was formed from the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era, about 70 million years ago,
as sedimentary rocks accumulated due to erosion by seawater. This sedimentary rock is known as the Gyegpo-ri Formation,
and consists of alternating layers of conglomerate over conglomerate, sandstone over mudstone, shale, and volcanic ash.
This sedimentary environment suggests that the area was once a deep lake,
and that volcanic ejecta were deposited on the lakebed.
Also, faults, folds, intrusive structures, and wave-cut platforms can be easily observed in this cliff,
making it ideal for studying topography and geology.
Sea cliffs, flat wave-cut platforms, and sea caves have also developed due to wave erosion.
Potholes, a product of the combined forces of the earth’s crust and waves, have developed on the Chaeseokgang seabed,
and tidal pools formed by seawater trapped during high tide are scattered throughout the area.
